چکیده

Mathematical models are able to estimate the outcome of a patient to a certain ventilator setting. Employed in a medical decision support system (MDSS) this supports finding the optimum ventilation strategy for patients mechanically ventilated in ICU. Here, knowledge about current blood gas values like end-tidal CO2 (etCO2) is important to asses patient’s status. A model to predict etCO2 responses to certain respiratory frequency levels has been evaluated with real patient data.

Association Between End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide Pressure and Cardiac Output During Fluid Expansion in Operative Patients Depend on the Change of Oxygen Extraction

In a model of hemorrhagic shock, end-tidal carbon dioxide tension (EtCO2) has been shown to reflect the dependence of oxygen delivery (DO2) and oxygen consumption (VO2) at the onset of shock. The objectives of the present study were to determine whether variations in EtCO2 during volume expansion (VE) are correlated with changes in oxygen extraction (O2ER) and whether EtCO2 has predictive value...

The Diagnostic Value of End-tidal Carbon Dioxide (EtCO2) and Alveolar Dead Space (AVDS) in Patients with Suspected Pulmonary Thrombo-embolism (PTE)

Introduction: Capnography, is an easy, fast and practical method which its application in the diagnosis of Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy (PTE) has recently been studied. This study aimed to assess the diagnostic value of end-tidal CO2 (ETCO2) and the alveolar dead space (AVDS) in the diagnosis of patients suspected to PTE who have been referred to the emergency department. Materials and Metho...

Utility of Prehospital Quantitative End Tidal CO2?

INTRODUCTION End tidal CO2 (ETCO2) has been established as a standard for confirmation of an airway, but its role is expanding. In certain settings ETCO2 closely approximates the partial pressure of arterial CO2 (PaCO2) and has been described as a tool to optimize a patient's ventilatory status. ETCO2 monitors are increasingly being used by EMS personnel to guide ventilation in the prehospital ...

Exhaled CO2 Parameters as a Tool to Assess Ventilation-Perfusion Mismatching during Neonatal Resuscitation in a Swine Model of Neonatal Asphyxia

BACKGROUND End-tidal CO2 (ETCO2), partial pressure of exhaled CO2 (PECO2), and volume of expired CO2 (VCO2) can be continuously monitored non-invasively to reflect pulmonary ventilation and perfusion status. Although ETCO2 ≥14 mmHg has been shown to be associated with return of an adequate heart rate in neonatal resuscitation and quantifying the PECO2 has the potential to serve as an indicator ...

The correlation between end-tidal carbon dioxide and arterial blood gas parameters in patients evaluated for metabolic acid-base disorders

BACKGROUND The analysis of arterial blood gas (ABG) is an invasive procedure that is used frequently in the emergency department (ED) to evaluate the acid-base status of critically-ill patients. However, capnometry is an alternative procedure that has been used in recent years to determine the metabolic status of patients' blood. Considering the correlation between end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETC...
